  my local congregation has been in the news this week following a successful application for planning permission for a quick build.

  a local vicar objected because the application described it as a building for "christain worship".. .

  vicar fury at new home for jehovahs .

  Your top 5 most irritating doctrines/practices?

  it's clear that virtually everyone on here is infuriated by wt teachings/doctrines/practices, but i would really like to know what is of most concern to people who frequent this forum.. here is my top 5, number 1 being the most significant/infuriating:.

  the disfellowshipping practice - expanded to include family members (but not parents) who are old enough to leave home.

  wrecks families and creates abject fear once people find out the truth about the organization.the blood issue - another unmerciful teaching, but one that costs lives.unquestioned authority of governing body - a handful of men make life-altering decisions as representatives of a larger group of people who they never see or speak to, and yet they demand unquestioning obedience on pain of being disfellowshipped.failed prophecy - the fulfilment of huge swathes of bible prophecy, including revelation, has been attributed to the events of the early 20th century, and the actions of a small group of men.two-tier christianity - faithful and discreet slave are anointed who go to heaven to whom ransom provisions apply directly, whereas remainder, or "great crowd" stay on earth and form a sub-class, only access benefits of ransom through fds.i realise that many of these issues are inter-related, but that's roughly how i would put them.

  Women are good for nothing except door knocking in their eyes and catering for the C.Os "special" dietary requirements.......

  life is short and i regret the years i have wasted.

  Little steps will get you there.........a cake is only a birthday cake if you put candles on it..........why not have a regular cake, and just a few kids and parents, a couple of presents.....you dont have to go the whole hog to have a wonderful day....

  As far as Xmas is concerned, just try having a small tree with some presents, nothing fancy or over the top....

  Getting together with family/friends is the most important aspect in all of this, you can make some wonderful memories without all the fancy decorations if you want......dont worry, go with the flow.......enjoy and have fun x

  my old kingdom hall at berwick-on-tweed has finally been sold to an art dealer after being on the market for a couple of years.. this week they were granted planning permission for a quick build on a site in a village just outside the town.

  "rev matthew knox, vicar of tweedmouth and priest in charge of st peters church in scremerston, argued the plan should be turned down because it is not a place of christian worship as stated in the application.".

  the story is the front page headline today in my local paper, the berwick advertiser.. here is a couple of gems from the article... "it is not part of churches together in berwick, it has its own translation of the bible and to my knowledge discourages independent thinking with the real threat of members being shunned by all other members if they dispute their governing bodys official doctrine.".

  circuit overseers what do they do?

  today i uploaded to my blog an article showing documents circuit overseers send to each congregation in preparation for their upcoming inspection.

  quite a few have never seen these, and they go a long way toward understanding the place and operation of these watchtower appointees within the organizations structure.

  i have no regrets turning my inordinate childhood obsession with cleanliness into interior and exterior maintenance: janitorial and gardening.

  Hi, I suffer with panic, anxiety, and agoraphobia. Im often exhausted because of adrenaline, even if I dont do much. Vertigo is the worst symptom of this illness..........I do a little light cleaning everyday, take regular breaks, and am learning not to be so worried about having a perfect house. Getting the major stuff done (washing up, dinner, and a load of washing in the machine) is my priority every day.......anything else is a bonus!

  but wouldnt it be better.....

  to paint a picture, or write a letter....."

  New Holy Writings

  have the complete "holy writings of god" been discovered?.

  is it possible that there are still "legit" holy writings - possibly with completely contradictory information - yet to be discovered?.

  how does one determine what is 'holy' vs. 'the writings of man'?

  My old study teacher commented she was well aware there are entire books missing from the bible.......when I asked why, she said shed get back to me.......that was 4 years ago.

  it is not our right to tell others how to run their personal affairs'' anybody here ever been told to do something/how to do something by an elder or other jw?

  in regards to job situation/family for example, with no direct scriptural backing...

  Elders wife came along for a study with me, along with my regular study teacher......

  Both of them were horrified because of my draft excluder..........

  It was a 10ft long green snake.......from Ikea.........yes, a kids type toy............they BOTH mentioned SATAN!

  seven sex offenses have been reported within jehovahs witnesses since 1960, three of which occurred in 1990, frettabladid reports.. one of these cases was reported to the police but later dismissed.
